Lilker Energy Solutions (LES) provided LEED Gold consulting, energy modeling, and commissioning services for Prince Frederick Hall—a 200,000 sq. ft., seven-story mixed-use building providing student housing, study lounges, seminar and multipurpose spaces, and office spaces for the University of Maryland. It will also house a SCUB facility (Satellite Central Utility Building) that provides chilled water and hot water to the Prince Frederick Hall as well as to nearby buildings planned for future expansion. The design incorporates a number of sustainability features. Site stormwater runoff will be reduced by 70 percent. The mechanical design includes efficient chillers with variable speed drives, variable flow pumping systems, and 100% outdoor air units with internal heat recovery. The building will use 22% less energy than the ASHRAE baseline.
