Irish Hunger Memorial

Located on the corner of Vesey Street and North End Avenue, the Irish Hunger Memorial is dedicated to raising awareness of the Great Irish Famine that killed hundreds of thousands in Ireland in the mid 1800s. Set on a uniquely landscaped half-acre site that utilizes stones, soil, and native vegetation brought in from the western coast of Ireland, the memorial incorporates an authentically recreated Irish cottage of the 19th century. Lilker designed all mechanical and electrical services for the memorial, which features nearly two miles of text installed in illuminated bands that wrap around its base and function as a beacon along the Hudson River.
